CloudFit gives you two ways to add text to a whiteboard module: the Simple Text Editor and the Canvas Editor.
Both options let you display text on your whiteboard, but they are designed for different jobs. The simple editor is best when you want to add text quickly. The canvas editor is best when you want more control over exactly how your text looks and where it appears.
Simple Text Editor
The Simple Text Editor is the fastest and easiest way to add text to a whiteboard module.
It is ideal when you want to quickly type out instructions, announcements, workout notes, or other short text without spending much time on layout.
With the simple editor, you can:
Add text quickly
Use basic rich text formatting
Adjust font size
Create clear, readable whiteboard content with minimal setup
The simple editor works well when the exact placement of each word is not important. CloudFit handles the layout for you, which keeps editing fast and straightforward.
Canvas Editor
The Canvas Editor is a more advanced way to design whiteboard text.
It works more like popular visual design tools such as Canva, where you can place text directly onto a canvas and control how each item looks. Instead of typing into one standard text box, you can position, resize, rotate, and style individual text elements exactly where you want them.
With the canvas editor, you can:
Place text anywhere within the whiteboard canvas area
Resize text freely
Rotate text
Use different fonts
Adjust text colors
Add text backgrounds
Create more visual layouts
Style different text items independently
You can also add supporting visual elements such as basic shapes, emojis, drawings, and images from your CloudFit media library. These can help make a whiteboard more visual, but the main strength of the canvas editor is the extra control it gives you over text placement and styling.
Because the canvas editor gives you more control over placement, sizing, and styling, it is usually easier to use on a larger screen such as a laptop, desktop, or tablet. You can still use it on a phone, but detailed layout work may be easier on a bigger screen.
Which Editor Should I Use?
Use the Simple Text Editor when you want something quick, clean, and easy to update.
Use the Canvas Editor when you want more control over the visual design of the whiteboard.
As a general guide:
Choose the simple editor for speed and simplicity.
Choose the canvas editor for flexible positioning, custom styling, and more polished layouts.
The canvas editor is more powerful, but it also has more options. If you only need basic text, the simple editor is usually the better choice.
Switching To The Canvas Editor
For new whiteboard modules, CloudFit will prompt you to choose which text editor you want to use: the Simple Text Editor or the Canvas Editor.
For existing whiteboard modules that already use the Simple Text Editor, you will see an option below the simple text settings that lets you switch to the Canvas Editor.
FAQ
Can I place text anywhere on the screen?
The canvas editor lets you place text freely within the whiteboard canvas area. Text cannot be placed outside the canvas boundary, as that space is reserved for other display elements such as timers, logos, and counters.
Should I keep text inside the dashed guide area?
Yes, where possible. The dashed guide area shows the recommended area for important content. Keeping key text inside this area helps it look good across different screen sizes and display orientations.
Does the canvas editor support portrait and landscape displays?
Yes. The canvas editor supports both portrait and landscape displays.
When creating a new canvas whiteboard, CloudFit chooses the best canvas orientation based on your paid displays. If most of your paid displays are portrait, CloudFit will use a portrait canvas. If most are landscape, CloudFit will use a landscape canvas.
Existing canvas whiteboards keep their current orientation when reopened, so your layout does not unexpectedly change.
Can I switch between the simple editor and canvas editor?
Yes. You can use either editor depending on what you need.
The simple editor is best for quick text updates. The canvas editor is best when you want more control over placement, size, fonts, colors, and layout.
Once you switch a whiteboard to the canvas editor, the canvas version becomes the main version shown on your displays. You can clear the canvas version if you want to return to the simple text editor.
How do I make canvas text easier to read?
Use larger text for key messages and smaller text for supporting details. Choose colors that stand out clearly from the whiteboard background, especially if you are using an image or video.
Can I add too many items to the canvas?
Yes. A simpler canvas is usually easier to read during a workout and easier to edit later. Try to use only the text, shapes, emojis, drawings, or images that are actually needed for the whiteboard.
